Next stop: Prieska, on the southern bank of the Orange River. Running about 1,300 miles, the Orange is one of the longest rivers in Africa and is of vital economic importance to the area—it certainly fuels Prieska’s agricultural sector. Prieska is also famous for its semi-precious stones, including tiger’s eye, which the British used to build a fort overlooking the town during the Second Boer War.
