DAY 19

April 20th
FROM KIMBERLEY

WEATHER
We continued eastward today, passing the Bloemhof dam at the confluence of the Vaal and Vet rivers. One of the largest dams in South Africa, this place is considered an angling paradise and hosts several important fishing competitions. The area all around here is protected, but because it’s located on the border between the North West and Free State provinces, it’s divided into two (equally wonderful) reserves: the Sandveld Nature Reserve and the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve. We also passed by another shining example of South African engineering: the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme, a network of canals over 1,000 km long and which provides water to almost 40,000 hectares and six nearby towns. Something else made today special as well: the opportunity to meet our local dealers and their customers. In Hoopstad we paid a visit to our Tubestone distributor’s trusted dealer Hi-Q, who gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel right at home. In Bothaville we spent some time with Champion Tyres, another one of Tubestone’s valued dealers, where we met some happy BKT customers. As a company, we appreciate these moments to get to know the people who use our products in the field, especially in remote areas that we might not get to under normal circumstances. All in all, it was an exciting day!
