DAY 4

April 5th
FROM OUDTSHOORN
TO KURLAND
DIFFICULTY
WEATHER
Today was probably the best day so far—for our tractors at least! That’s because we took Prince Alfred’s Pass, a gravel road just outside of Oudtshoorn that twists and turns for almost 70km as it takes you out of the highlands and down to the coast. Once we got to the Indian Ocean, another journey awaited us: the celebrated Garden Route, stretching from Mossel Bay to the Storms River, with lots of famous seaside towns nestled along the way.

“We make our way across a plateau dotted with picture-pretty farmsteads, all nice and tidy and surrounded by orchards. Pears and apples are export crops. Then it’s time to tackle our first gravel road, a track winding its way up and down the mountains among outstanding scenery. It’s a treat to our BKT tires and even the drivers, a bit nervous at first, soon relax and actually have fun”.
